For years, Emma Beniot quietly struggled with anxiety and depression, too ashamed to share her pain with family or friends. At 16, she attempted to end her life; the self-inflicted gunshot left her paralyzed. “My Ascension” chronicles Beniot’s recovery journey and advocacy work while addressing the youth suicide epidemic.

Students interested in Penn State Altoona’s English major or Writing and Digital Media minor are invited to an informal “Meet the English Faculty” gathering on Tuesday, Oct. 29, before and after the Hard Freight Café open mic event.

Attendees are invited to read or perform their own work or music or share a favorite piece of poetry or prose. The event will include a kick-off reading by English professors Todd Davis and Erin Murphy.
